I Give and He Provides

I Give and He Provides

Proverbs 3: 9-10
Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Thought:
When we honor God by giving Him of our provisions, He promises to provide all our needs.

It is true that to have, first we must work. Everyone who is successful has put in a lot of effort to achieve what they have achieved, and being a hard-working person is something worthy of admiration. We normally work to take care of ourselves and those we love. But the proverbist encourages us in today’s passage to consider doing something else with the provision we receive.

We must always remember that everything we have comes directly from our provider, the Lord. No one can boast that he has accomplished something in his own strength, because even our strength comes from Him.

That is why today’s passage, and many other passages of scripture, encourage us to give to the Lord joyfully and promptly. The passage says that in doing so we honor the God of heaven. In other words, by giving to the Lord we show a heart of worship towards our God.

Perhaps someone thinks: “But if I give to Him, won’t I be in need?” Friend, that is what is amazing about our God. If we give Him what He requires of us, we will never lack what is necessary. The proverbist even indicates that we will overflow with provisions!

Millions of believers in the history of the world have seen this promise fulfilled. David said: “…yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” If you have never proven whether this promise is true, I encourage you to start today. If you already do, I encourage you to continue for the rest of your days. When we honor God by giving Him our firstfruits, He promises to provide all our needs.
