Our Purpose & Beliefs

Our Purpose

Tucson Baptist Church is united following a Biblical purpose! Christ’s last command is our first priority. Every facet of what we do in our ministry, in some way, relates to our Biblical purpose. This is expressed in three ways.

“..All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20

love god

Our desire is that as a church our love for God would grow deeper every time we gather together. This begins in the heart, with a personal relationship with Jesus. Through the time of worship and the teaching and preaching of the Bible, we have one goal: Love God.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Mark 12:30

Grow together

We grow together through the teaching of the Bible and through community. As truth from the Bible is taught in services, growth groups, and one-on-one, we will all grow closer to Christ. Through our adult growth groups, everyone has a place here at Tucson Baptist Church!

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

2 Peter 3:18

our beliefs

The following paragraphs summarize what we believe as a church family. Simply put, we believe the Bible is absolutely true and perfect. Every belief, teaching, and practice of Tucson Baptist Church flows from God’s Word.

If you would like a more detailed doctrinal statement, please see one of our pastoral staff members.

About the bible

We believe the 66 books of the Bible of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life.

About God

We believe that God the Father, who is rich with both wisdom and knowledge, sits on His throne in Heaven as Supreme Creator and Sovereign Ruler of all the universe. We believe that God the Father loves the world and has sent forth His Son to be the Redeemer of mankind.

We believe that God the Father raised Jesus from the dead, has adopted us as children into His family and has delivered us from the power of darkness. We believe that God the Father is the One to Whom we pray and from Whom we receive answers to prayer.

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections.

About Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.

About the holy spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and, that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit.

We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. God uniquely uses evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly in order that they can do the work of the ministry.

We believe that the temporary sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, have ceased. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism or filling of the Holy Spirit and that ultimate deliverance of the body from sickness or death awaits the consummation of our salvation in the resurrection, though God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing.

About sin & salvation

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and, that man is totally depraved, and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins.

About eternal security

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh.

About the new testament church

We believe that the church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born-again persons. We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures. We believe that its officers are pastors and deacons whose qualifications, claims and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures. We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control. We recognize believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper as the Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church in this age.
