The First Game of Hide and Seek

The First Game of Hide and Seek

In the opening moments of the Bible, we read about the first humans — Adam and Eve. They were God’s creative masterpieces being perfect in every way! He made them with three intentions: to love them personally, for them to fill the earth with people, and for them to take care of the earth He had just created.

God had a few instructions for them including to enjoy everything in the earth except for one tree. We don’t know how long it took, but eventually, they did the very thing that God told them not to do. In that moment, drowning in feelings of shame and guilt, they hid themselves from God, Who already knew what they had done.

Not only was God aware of their actions, He was also the only One Who could restore their relationship. Adam and Eve tried to cover up what they had done, but only God could bring ultimate restoration through Jesus Christ.

If we are honest, we have all been in the same situation as Adam and Eve. God has clearly articulated His expectations of us, yet we find ourselves on the outside of his intention. After sinning against God, we often avoid God like Adam and Eve rather than turn to Him. We avoid the only One Who can solve our problem.

Notice God’s heart in this verse: Isaiah 1:18
“Come now and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

God already knows we have all sinned, yet He pleads with us to come to Him. He does not want us to hide or pretend we have it all together. He invites us to come to Him with all of our guilt and brokenness so that He can restore us back to His original intention for us.

Whatever it is you think you are hiding and keeping from God, I assure you He already knows about it and wants to face it together with you. Bring Him your guilt, shame, and sin, and let Him make you whole again!
