We should not be surprised that as soon as they (the Jerusalem church in Acts 4) proclaimed God’s glory, the Word of God was quoted in their midst.
If I want to experience God coming to my church, I must prepare my heart. I must give glory to God. And the next step…
Step #3 – I must listen intently to the Word of God
Though the Jerusalem church quoted David in Psalm 2:1-2, they stated that this message came “by the mouth of Your servant.” They knew that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (II Timothy 3:16).
We can and should also be enriched by listening-with-purpose to God’s Word. Please, bring your Bible to church. That may sound obvious, but some people do not. How can you verify what is said without your Bible? If you do not have a Bible, tell me, I will get you one. A believer who does not bring a Bible to church is showing his lack of respect for God, His Word and the speaker.
As I am listening intentionally to God’s Word, why not ask God to help you understand and acknowledge your willingness to apply it to your life? The application of certain passages of Scripture may be different for you than for me. I need Him to “illuminate” its truths. You’ve lost nothing by trying this but certainly could lose everything if you don’t.
