Joy Killer #5: I have an ungrateful attitude.
Are you one of those people who are never content, where enough is never enough? Some never learn to be satisfied. They always want more, more, more. So they don’t have joy.
They can’t enjoy the blessings they already have because the craving for something else. God gives them a job but they want a better job. God gives them a home, but they want a better home. God gives them a spouse but they want a better-looking, more understanding spouse. It goes on and one.
The source of that ingratitude is pride, the attitude that says you deserve better. Listen, God knows what you need and what you have. Joy comes from being grateful to God because we don’t deserve all that He has already given us.
Joy Killer #6: I feel like there are unrealistic expectations.
Some churches teach that if you will just serve the Lord He will be obligated to make you healthy and wealthy. They teach that God will shield you from any hardship and that any trouble you face is a result of your own sin. Those are false expectations.
God will bless you, yes! However, He will also let you face hardship in order to strengthen you and grow you up in the faith. Nehemiah 8:10, “Neither be ye sorry, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
