All of us were moved by the heroic life and tragic death of Rick Husband. He was the Commander of Space Shuttle Columbia when it disintegrated upon reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere on February 1, 2003.
Yet what is far greater than being an advanced pilot and the commander of a space shuttle, Rick Husband was, by all accounts, a dedicated believer in Jesus Christ.
His wife, Evelyn stated at his memorial service, “I have absolute assurance that Rick is in heaven. He had his priorities straight and God made sure of that before we ever came here, to this point.”
Another Christian aboard the space shuttle Columbia was Michael Anderson.
Anderson and Husband were members of the same church. His wife, Sandy said, “It’s hard. But I’m not in despair because I know where Michael’s at… But we want everyone to understand that we’re going to be fine… and we just appreciate the support and prayer from our church community and the community at large.”
You know what I hear in the voices of those godly widows? Joy. Sure grief mixed with joy, but joy just the same. Joy to know they will be with their believing husbands again. The world does not get it. The unsaved do not understand. But what a testimony!
Would you be able to give such a testimony as Mrs. Husband and Mrs. Anderson gave if asked to speak after a tragedy? Would you have joy? Again, I say rejoice!
