Because the Bible is inspired, inerrant and infallible, it stands to reason that it is authoritative; it bears the authority of heaven.
Isaiah 1:2 says, “Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD hath spoken.” Imagine the sound of the voice of God when He spoke the world into existence! Imagine God’s voice when he spoke to Elijah from the whirlwind. Imagine the thunder of heaven when the Lord said of His Son at the baptism, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).
Imagine how His voice echoed down the mountainside when He repeated those words at the transfiguration (Matthew 17:5). Imagine how you would shake and tremble if the Lord were to speak to us today in an audible voice!
Every time you pick up your Bible, that same authority that boomed from the heavens is thundering in your soul. Every single word of Scripture carries God’s authoritative stamp. That’s why Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
God’s Word is “living and powerful” Like a sharp sword it cuts through the muck and mire of our lives and gets down to the soul, who we really are. It pierces through all the worldly armor and gets to our hearts.
