Today’s Verse

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.

II Timothy 3:16

Friday, February 11

Before we go any further, we need to know what the Word of God is like, what it claims to be. If I am going to accept the challenge to be disciplined in my reading and studying of the Word of God, I must also accept the complete validity of God’s Word.

The very, very first claim that I must accept is that the Word of God is inspired. Today many people say that the Bible is accurate where it speaks to spiritual issues but inaccurate where it touches history and science. Yet, today’s verse says “ALL Scripture” is “inspired.”

“Inspired” is a critical word. It translates theopneustos. Theos is the Greek word for God. Pneo means “breath” or “wind.” Thus, together they translate “God-breathed.” The whole sentence literally reads, “All Scriptures are God-breathed.”

Now look back to chapter 2, verse 15. “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” How is the Bible described in this verse? What are we to “rightly divide?” It is “the word of truth.” All of it is true because all of it is inspired by, breathed out by God.

If we truly belong to the Lord, nothing should be more important than filling our minds with “inspired,” God-breathed truth every day. Nothing is of greater importance.
