Verifiable Test #6: A Christian will demonstrate genuine humility.

Religious people are proud. They are proud of their accomplishments. They will display their self-righteousness by telling you what they “do” and what they do “not do”. For them, a relationship with God is a checklist of do’s and don’ts and they have checks in all the appropriate places.

On the other hand, a chief characteristic of someone who has truly been saved is that He is amazed by the grace of God. He can’t get over the fact that God would save someone like him.

A great picture of this contrast is found in Luke 18. Jesus described two men as they prayed. The proud Pharisee said, “God, I thank You that I am not as other men are; extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess” verses 11-12.

Notice the response of the tax collector in today’s verse. WOW!

The older I get, the more I know of the Lord; the more I am overwhelmed by His grace. The more I understand the height of His holiness and the depth of my depravity, the more I want to cry out like the prodigal son, I am not worthy to be called your son!

Weekly Memory Verse

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Ephesians 3:19

"Two forces are at war in every fighter, the ego and the goal. An overdose of self- love, coddling of the ego, makes bums of men who ought to be champions. Forgetfulness of self, complete absorption in the goal, often makes champions out of bums."
