Verifiable Test #2: A Christian will obey the Word of God.
One of the great themes of the epistle of I John is assurance. The Apostle John over and over again lays out two ways to be assured of your salvation. The first is that we are obedient to the Word of God. Jot down these verses for personal study.
Consider these verses: I John 2:5 says, “But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
I John 3:18-19 says, “My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.”
I John 3:24 says, “And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.”
Let me ask you a simple question. Do you obey the Bible? Do you love the Bible? I didn’t ask if you carried a Bible but if you loved it. Do you have deep love for the Word of God? Do you delight in reading and studying it? Do you rejoice in its promises?
Are you eager to hear it taught and proclaimed? Are you like the Psalmist who cried out, “Oh, how I love thy law! It is my meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97).
