Today’s Verse

We love Him because He first loved us.

I John 4:19

Monday, January 31

Romans 5:5 states, “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.” When the Holy Spirit indwells us at salvation, He brings with Him an undying love for the Lord.

The psalmist cries out in Psalm 116:1, “I love the LORD, because He hath heard My voice and my supplications.” Paul writes in I Corinthians 8:3,“But if any man love God, the same is known of him.”

We could go on and on with verse after verse, but the point is made. Salvation is evidenced by a love for God, His nature, His holiness, His glory, His Word, and His will.

Someone states, “I feel unfulfilled in my spiritual life. I have a hunger for more of God. Amen! You are supposed to feel that. A hunger for God is evidence of your love for Him.”

Psalm 42:1-2 says, “As the deer panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”

I love my family. This is evidenced in my desire to spend time with them. I love cycling. This is evidenced in my desire to go cycling at every opportunity. Some of you ladies love shopping. This is evidenced by your desire to shop. You get the point. When you are saved, you receive this love for God that evidences itself in longing for Him. Unsaved people do not have that.
