Okay, we know how not to test our salvation. Now how can we test it? How can we be sure we are saved? Can we be sure we are saved? The Bible says we can.
Be certain that you understand that you cannot earn your salvation by works but also know that your works, your lifestyle, may verify that you are saved. A person who has truly been born again will manifest that change in the way he lives. Let’s examine eight verifiable tests for genuine conversion.
Verifiable Test #1: A Christian will have a love for God.
The first and most basic trait of someone who has been saved is a deep, abiding love for God. On the other hand, an unsaved person has no love for God. In fact, he is in rebellion against God. Romans 8:7 says, “…the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.” A person can be outwardly religious but still have no real love for God.
In Matthew 22, a Jewish expert in the Mosaic Law came to Jesus and asked, “Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” (verse 36). Jesus answered him quoting Deuteronomy 6:5, He said, “Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment” (verses 37-38).
The most important commandment is to love God. That is impossible apart from salvation. When we are saved, God places within us a great love for Him.
