All of us are sinners. I have never found anyone who would honestly deny that. God has placed in our hearts an innate understanding of righteousness and sin. Even people who have never heard of the Bible understand that some of the things they do are intrinsically wrong. The only real answer to guilt is the gospel. The only solution to sin is salvation.
Today we live with a victim mentality. Instead of facing up to our sin and wrongdoing psychologists have taught us to be victims, to blame our parents, our spouse, our children, our employers.
Instead of dealing with our sin, we simply blame our actions and attitudes on others. Still, deep down, we know that we are sinners. We still on some level struggle with guilt.
Some might say, “I know that I am saved because when I sin, I feel guilty.” They try to change. They try to reform, but reformation is not the same as regeneration. Felix trembled under Paul’s preaching but was not converted.
As the old saying goes, “Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.”
Just because you feel guilty when the Word is preached; just because you have remorse for sin in your life does not necessarily mean that you have truly been saved. Hang with me for very shortly we are going to examine the proofs of salvation.
