Today’s Verse

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

John 4:17

Saturday, July 16

Over the last couple of days, we have learned from Jesus’ example about four techniques in talking with someone when that divine appointment presents itself. Jesus asked questions, listened to the answers, found a common interest, and addressed the obvious.

In our story from John 4, it is as if Jesus found a raw nerve in talking with the woman at the well. Have you ever seen that t-shirt that says, “I only have one nerve left and you are standing on it!” I feel like that sometimes. You feel like that sometimes.

Have you ever had a dentist touch a nerve in a cavity? Ouch! I remember having a cavity filled when the dentist hit my nerve. I almost came out of the chair.

Our friends have raw nerves too. It may be a hurt marriage, a rebellious child, a financial problem, health problems, loneliness, long COVID, an intolerable work situation, a church issue, etc…

Those nerves are tender; do not exploit them. However, because almost everyone feels some kind of pain, we can introduce them to the healing authority of the Lord Jesus!

You may be struggling with much pain in your life right now. You may identify more with the woman than with Jesus. That is okay! Jesus loves you just as much as He did that woman and wants to save you today! If you are already a believer, Jesus greatly desires to heal that tender nerve.

Weekly Memory Verse

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

"All around us we see Christians and churches relaxing their grasp on the gospel, fumbling it, and in danger of letting it drop from their hands altogether."
