Today’s Verse

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelation 3:20

Thursday, December 29

Think back for a moment to old Simeon holding the blessed baby in his arms. What joy must have overcome him! It was the greatest moment of his life!

For context, read today’s verse: we can’t hold Jesus in our arms, but we can hold Him in our hearts. What a wonderful time of year to throw open the door of your heart and embrace Jesus! Let me give you three benefits of doing so:

#1: Jesus is with us forever. Simeon held Jesus for a few moments, but we can hold Him forever.

Romans 8:39 says nothing will separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

#2: Jesus gives us peace. Simeon held Jesus and then he departed in peace, that is, he died. People want peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He gives us peace with God and the peace of God.

Peace means putting up with annoying people. Peace means getting nothing but knowing you have far more than you deserve.

#3: Jesus gives us light. Simeon prophesied Jesus would be a light to bring revelation. Jesus is the Light of the world.

I am so grateful for the story of Simeon from Luke 2. This puts a lot into perspective.

Weekly Memory Verse

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runneth into it and is safe.

Proverbs 18:10

"In God's sight, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas whenever we rediscover the simplicity of His love and bow down in thankfulness and worship, where we are and whatever our circumstances."
