Today’s Verse

And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:18-19

Wednesday, December 14

In the book of I Corinthians, the church is referred to as a body. The local church is called the body of Christ. We could say that if the church is a body, which it is, then the outreach and soul winning program of the church is the cardiovascular system of the body.

Telling others about Christ is critical. Reaching others exemplifies the heart and circulation of the body. We are told there are 400,000 churches in the U.S.A. Sadly, the vast majority are on the decline.

Today, something very important begins at our church… Journey Through Christmas! We must have an outreach to our local community. This is an excellent opportunity to present Jesus to our lost and dying community. I want to spend a couple days discussing the importance of our outreach or Project 520, as we call it here at Tucson Baptist.

No wonder churches are on the decline when we have failed to obey the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ. In today’s verse, Christ has called us to be fishers of men. He has called us to go out and tell others of Jesus. People need the Lord. We must reach out as a church and reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 28:19 we are told to go into all the world. People need the Lord and we as a church must reach out and touch this world with the gospel.

Weekly Memory Verse

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 29:18

"Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart."
